New Year, New Pre-school

My apologies if you've already read this over at my other blog. I am doing some major blog cheating today!

So, in addition to moving into a new house this year, Miss Poppy also started at a new preschool. Last week was her first day and there was lots of 'I don't want to go', 'I like my old pre-school' going on for days before D Day (or P day should that be?). My teacher brain knew that kids are extremely adaptable but my Mummy brain was having a major attack of the guilts. Just look at that face as she's standing outside the gates scoping it all out. Aargh, major tug on the heartstrings moment there!
Once she was through those gates though it all turned around in an instant. One of the reasons we chose this pre-school for Poppy was because of the fabulous staff and their approach to Early Childhood Education. Poppy instantly warmed to them and was soon in the yard testing out all the equipment.
There were no tears when I left , just a huge smile on that sweet little face of hers.

Birthday bliss

Enjoying his new handmade wooden trolley. It really should have come with a warning: baby rides at parents own risk. Stationary vehicle likely to induce hysterical tantrum of epic proportions. Trolley should be kept moving at all times.
Got it.

One

I have seriously been neglecting this poor little blog of mine. Sometimes I honestly don't know where the time goes. The last few weeks have been a whirl of blogging (here and here - not here obviously) and birthdays. The little man turned 1 last week and we celebrated with a trip to the Aquarium (where he terrorised some sea urchins) and a quiet family afternoon tea. Unfortunately there was no photo of him trying his first piece of cake - he couldn't have cared less for the out-of-this-world rocket creation.

But, the kid did make sure that he read all of his birthday cards.

The Look

You know when you've just about pushed the limits with little ones. The look says it all really. Oh, and the way she joined me in the change room and announced to everyone that she could see my boobs. Which of course she couldn't. But, to a four year old, that's really just a technicality.
On another note, if I could fit into that dress it would have come home with me for sure. And I honestly don't know how I resisted those cute little Babushka cups.

Guilt

This week I've been feeling guilty. Second-child syndrome guilty. I haven't documented his milestones (they're currently filed in my not-so reliable memory - bad idea), his toys are big-sister hand-me-downs (which he doesn't really play with anyway. He prefers to snatch and grab whatever's lying on Little Miss's bedroom floor) and I just realised I have no video footage of him whatsoever. He has been such a cruisy, relaxed baby from the moment he was born and he is a little piece of calm in what is often a whirlwind of chaos in our house.

Little man turns 1 next month, only 2 short weeks after his big sister's birthday. I have been planning her big day but not his. Someone suggested combining the celebrations but I could not even think about doing that. This little man needs to have something that's his. A special day for him alone, even if it's just a homemade cake and family dinner. Apparently he wants a rocket cake (according to Little Miss) so that's what it will be. Chocolate rocket cake. And he'll have the first piece. I'll, of course, have the camera ready...

My Kiddo on Modern Kiddo

Here's my gorgeous little miss on one of my absolute favourite blogs Modern Kiddo. Unfortunately she has a slight aversion to the camera and will generally manage to contort that gorgeous face of hers into something quite hideous (usually coupled with the phrase "ooooh, no more photos"). Just glad she managed to resist her usual urge to poke her tongue out!
